First week of Sophomore Year

The first week of Sophomore year is going really well, the homework isn’t much. (yet) but I am enjoying seeing all my friends everyday. My classes are going great, amazing teachers to teach as well. We also have a new principal named Mrs. Jennings, she has some different ideas and opportunities to help us have fun and learn for the rest of our high school life.

Swallowing Stones Book Review

In the book Swallowing Stones by Joyce Mcdonald, two friends Michael and Joe are facing a dilemma regarding a recent death of Charlie Ward, and Michael thinks he has something to do with it.  If you like suspense you might like this book.

Michael recieves a gun for his 18th birthday party, so he decides to test it out, but the next day he finds out a man four blocks away was shot off his roof and killed. This made him start lying to his friends, the police, and his friendships and relationships start unraveling.

My favorite part of this book is when Michael admits he shot Charlie Ward.

Now I recommend you read this book.

Should the U.S. have stricter gun laws?

I believe that the United States shouldn’t have strict gun laws because of the 2nd amendment, not all people intend to murder just because they own a gun, and we also need guns for defense and safety.
The 2nd amendment states: “ A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of the free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be contravened.” The government by enforcing strict gun laws, they are taking away from the constitution, and freedom from the people. However, the Supreme Court states in context, “it was clearly an individual right”
According to the FBI the total U.S. homicide rate has fallen by over half since 1980, and the gun homicide rate has fallen along with it. The U.S.A. is ranked 3rd out of 45 developed nations in regard to the incidence of homicides committed with a firearm.
Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals (http://solutions.heritage.org/guns/)
“Armed citizens are less likely to be injured by an attacker, and the number of defensive gun uses may as high as 2.1 million.”
Even though gun defense is rare in the United States, 2.1 million is still a lot of defensive citizens.“the ordinary definition of the militia as all able-bodied men” Today we would say it is all citizens, not necessarily just men.
The 2nd amendment, owning guns, safety and defense, is all a part of our freedom we have in the U.S.A. “the ordinary definition of the militia as all able-bodied men.
Today we would say it is all citizens, not necessarily just men.
Si Robertson once said, “It  ain’t gun control we need; it’s sin control.”
